FAQ
Questions we can answer plainly.
FrontCite is in early access. These answers describe the product as it works today, including what it will not do. They are not customer results.
Answers, emergencies, and the plan
Will it quote a price?
Only when that price is written in the pages or files you gave it, and the reply cites that passage. If the amount is not published, FrontCite does not invent one. It says it does not have a cited answer and asks for a name and a phone number or email.
Does it handle emergencies?
No. It does not troubleshoot a gas smell, a burning smell, or a carbon monoxide alarm. The reply tells the visitor to leave the house and call 911 and the gas utility. If the site has a passage whose title includes Emergency, that passage is cited under the reply, so a phone number you published can be shown. FrontCite does not invent a phone number and it does not dispatch a truck.
What counts against my plan?
Nothing is metered per chat or per resolution inside the conversation limit. The no-card trial and Starter include 300 conversations a month. Pro includes 1,500. Agency includes 5,000. After that limit, the widget only takes a message. The monthly price does not rise with each chat.
Is FrontCite live?
FrontCite is in early access. Checkout on this site is closed, and the waitlist does not collect a card. Join the waitlist if you want a note when a spot opens.
Your site, files, and chats
What does FrontCite crawl and store?
After the domain is verified, FrontCiteBot reads that site. It checks robots.txt, stays on the same site, and stops at 200 pages, waiting about a second between requests. It stores the page title, the URL, and the text extracted from the page. It does not keep a separate copy of the raw HTML. You can also upload a PDF, DOCX, TXT, or Markdown file up to 20 MB. FrontCite extracts the text and stores that text with a numeric vector used to find a matching passage. The original file bytes are not kept after extraction.
Where is that data hosted?
The production app and its Postgres database run on Railway. The public site is https://frontcite.com. A developer machine can use a local database; customer data for the live site is the Railway database.
Is my content used to train AI models?
FrontCite does not train or fine-tune a model on your pages, uploads, or chats. There is no FrontCite model being trained. If an OpenAI key is configured, the visitor's question and the matching excerpts are sent to OpenAI's API: gpt-4.1-mini first, and gpt-4.1 only when that draft is unsure. Page text may also be sent to OpenAI's embeddings API (text-embedding-3-small, stored at 384 dimensions). If only an Anthropic key is set, the draft goes to Anthropic's API (claude-haiku-4-5) instead. If neither key is set, or the monthly model budget is used up, the answer is chosen on our server from the stored excerpts and is not sent to those providers. The requests do not include a zero-retention flag, and FrontCite does not have a separate retention contract with those providers.
How long do you keep it, including after cancel?
Canceling a paid subscription stops renewal and stops cited answers. It does not delete crawled text, extracted uploads, chats, or leads. Those stay until the account owner schedules deletion. Deletion runs 7 days later and removes the account. The database then removes that account's sites, sources, text, chats, and leads. Signing in during those 7 days cancels the scheduled deletion.
Who can see visitor chats and leads?
The business account that owns the site receives a handoff email at its own address. A signed-in request to the account API returns that account's latest 50 leads: name, email, phone, and question. There is no public transcript page, and other customers cannot read the account. FrontCite does not have SOC 2. People who operate the service can access the database. We do not claim a certified access-control program.
How is visitor personal information handled?
The widget does not ask for a name or contact until it is handing the conversation to a person. The visitor types a name and a phone number or email, and checks a box if they agree to be contacted about that request. Card numbers that pass a checksum, and Social Security numbers, are not stored. That message is replaced with a redaction note. A follow-up email goes out only when the visitor consented, the plan includes follow-up, and someone on the account approves the note.
Can I export leads and transcripts?
There is no self-serve download of every lead or transcript. The handoff email includes up to the last 12 messages of that conversation. The signed-in account API returns the latest leads. Write hello@frontcite.com if you need something that screen does not show. FrontCite does not promise a full archive export.
What are the security basics?
frontcite.com is served over HTTPS, and the widget talks only to the FrontCite host that served the script. Account sign-in is a one-time email link. The admin page uses a separate token. We do not claim that the database is encrypted at rest beyond what the host provides, and we do not have SOC 2.
What happens when a question is handed to a person?
The visitor sees a short note that the desk does not have a cited answer, then a form. If they submit it, FrontCite emails the business account with their name, contact, question, and the recent transcript. The widget does not invent an answer in that case. The same handoff is used for legal, medical, or financial advice, and when the plan has used its conversations for the month.
Do you have SOC 2?
No. FrontCite does not have a SOC 2 report, and this site does not claim one.
The widget on your website
Does the widget set cookies or use browser storage?
No. The embed does not set cookies, and it does not write localStorage or sessionStorage. It keeps a random visitor id in memory for that page view so messages sent before a reload stay in one conversation. Reloading the page drops that id. Nothing about the visitor is written to disk by the widget.
Does the widget load third-party scripts or trackers?
No. It loads from your FrontCite script address and then calls only that same host for the widget settings, the answer, and the handoff form. It does not add another script tag, analytics tag, or font file.
What visitor data does the widget send?
Each question is sent with the page path and the in-memory id. The answer comes back with any citations. If the visitor submits the handoff form, FrontCite also receives the name, the phone or email, the consent checkbox, and the latest question. Those fields are stored for that business account and emailed to the account address.
What should we tell visitors in our own privacy policy?
Say that the chat is provided by FrontCite, that a question and the page path are sent to FrontCite, and that a name and phone or email are stored only if the visitor submits the handoff form. The widget is not a cookie and is not a reason by itself to add a FrontCite cookie. FrontCite does not give legal advice about whether your local law still wants a notice.
Setup, answers, and billing
How long does setup take?
You verify the domain with a meta tag or a DNS TXT record, then the crawl runs. A short site finishes after those pages are fetched, plus about a second between pages. A site that hits the 200-page cap takes longer than a few minutes because of that pause and the time each page takes to download. An upload is searchable after its text is extracted. You then paste the widget snippet. FrontCite does not promise a fixed number of minutes.
How accurate are answers, and where is the citation?
A cited answer has to point at a passage FrontCite actually retrieved. The widget shows that source title and link under the reply. The default bar is a confidence score of 0.55, and a site can set that bar between 0.30 and 0.90. The answer can still be wrong. The widget says it is an AI assistant using the business's site and that it may be wrong.
What happens when it does not know?
If there is no citation, the score is under the bar, or the draft says it does not know, the visitor does not get a guess. They get the handoff note and the form. The office gets the email if they submit it.
Which trades are supported?
Early access is for home-service businesses: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Roofing, Garage doors, Pest control, Landscaping, Painting, House cleaning, Water and fire restoration, Flooring, Windows and glass, Solar, Appliance repair, Handyman, General contracting. A waitlist request marked Something else is stored, and it is not counted as a qualified lead. The desk answers from the site you connect. It is not a separate model for each trade.
How does the trial work?
Checkout on this site is closed, so the waitlist does not collect a card. Signing in creates an account trial of 14 days with no card: one site and 300 conversations in the month. When that time passes, the widget stops answering from the site and only takes a message. When checkout is open, Stripe Checkout adds a 14-day subscription trial and collects a card first. The card is not charged for the trial itself. Managed Payments Checkout accepts trial_period_days; it is not on Stripe's list of parameters that Managed Payments rejects. The launch price, while that offer is open, is a 3-month coupon on the regular monthly price after the subscription exists ($19 then $29, $39 then $59, $99 then $149). Annual billing is ten times the regular monthly price and does not use the coupon.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
Yes, for a paid charge. Email hello@frontcite.com within 30 days of the charge and FrontCite refunds that charge through Stripe. The 30 days start when Stripe creates the charge, not when the trial starts. The trial itself is not a charge. A charge older than 30 days is outside this guarantee. The refund is not automatic.
Who bills me, and how do I cancel?
Sold through Link, LLC. FrontCite is the product. Link calculates tax and sends the receipt. FrontCite does not email a payment receipt and does not set the card statement line, which shows LINK.COM*. Cancel in the billing portal. Cancellation stops renewal. It does not delete crawled pages, chats, or leads. Use account deletion, described above, for that.
